Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

I purchased this set about a month ago, after looking at a LOT of online reviews. I wasn't sure about Plasma-didn't they "burn in," have overly-saturated colors, and run hot? This purchase was intended to replace a Panasonic 30" CRT HD set, which had a great picture, but at about 175Lbs, was almost impossible to move. Also, it required a bit of tweaking to get a good picture, and had only one HDMI connector, and no optical audio out. So, I checked out the latest info on Plasma-only to learn that my fears about the technology have been allayed. Burn-in, or the retention of the image after the picture switches, is offset automatically by the set, which subtly moves the static images so burn-in doesn't occur. There is also a utility built in to the set which "cleans" the screen. The power consumption/heat output of the set is more than LCD, but that too is in the comparable realm. They power management is simply better and more efficient than in years past.
So, the reviews I read, and believe me, I read a LOT of them, all mentioned that Panasonic knows how to do Plasma right. The price was reasonable for the set-and the options it has are sufficient. 3 HDMI slots, multiple component in connectors, optical audio out-these were all things I wanted. Plus, the VieraCast, not something that to me was too important, is actually a nice thing-if nothing else, it allowed me to update the firmware of the set within minutes of setting it up.

The picture quality-it's amazing! Better than pretty much anything else out there. I think the closest competitor is the upper-end Panasonic-but that's a subtle difference. The colors are rich (buy the BluRay "Up" just to show it off!) and true, and the brightness is great-no compromises, even in a moderately-lit room. Playing video games is a breeze-I have a PS3 and Xbox360 set up on the system, both with slightly different settings. The Panny allows different settings for each of the inputs-very cool. So, the BluRay player can make the set default to the THX setting, TV can be slightly less/more vivid, games can go through the Game mode on the set-you get the idea. It works well.

Sound through the optical out is great-although I've heard that it does NOT do true Dolby surround through it-not a huge deal to me, as I use an optical audio switch device, which runs straight from the various components to the speakers. I cannot comment whether or not this is the case, but if you check the various reviews, it's there.

So, all in all, I got a GREAT set with a fantastic picture at a reasonable price. We decided on the 50" to future-proof a bit, as we are temporarily living in an apartment, and will likely buy a house in the next year or so. Even in a relatively smaller room, the picture is great-you don't get the pixelation or smearing of some LCD sets.

I highly recommend the set-it's a great deal, and is getting increasingly more difficult to source-I have friends in the UK who have been looking for one in-stock for a while without success. It doesn't surprise me they're going fast

Thia tv is great. the sound and video blow me away, and i am so happy with this tv cause its a huge step up from my old 20" SDTV. But the 2 things i dont like is first the setup is diffucult cause the holes are to small for the screw. the other thing i dont like is a high pithced buzzing in the backround, but i can just urn up the volume and in drowns it out. Overall i am happy with my tv and for those of you wondering there is no differance between this tv and the 26lg30 exept for the fact that this is cheaper.

After nearly 5 months of ownership, I have yet to find a flaw. The picture is far brighter than most DLP's I've viewed and will rival LCDs and plasmas, minus the high power consumption and the heat generated by these flat screens. If you take the time to fiddle with the audio controls and customize it, the built-in speakers can also provide good sound (although if you had a tv this good, you'd really want to pair it with at least a 5.1 surround system). I hope Samsung continues to evolve the DLP LED series because from what I've seen, this is a truly worthwhile technology.

I have other plasmas, but this is the best picture I've seen. Excellent value. If you spend twice as much you can probably get a 1080p that has a better picture, but that will only have value with bluray because cable and satellite won't give you enough resolution now to push this TV.

LG 60PS60 60-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV Review

After researching both Plasma and LCD/LED Flatscreen Televisions online AND in local stores I decided that the new generation Plasma TV would be my choice, I cannot understand why people are paying THOUSANDS more for a 240hz TV when Plasma offers 600hz minimum? With the lifespan of both TV's reaching 100,000 hrs and burn in no longer being a problem..why not Plasma?? I've only had the TV a couple of days so I cannot comment on the longevity of the product but I can say that this TV by far has the BEST picture I've seen and I've been to every local Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, Conn's and local dealers....at least 5 time each.

It doesn't give off the heat that my 32" Visio does either, very efficient. With the user friendly calibration getting it set up was a snap although I still may have it professionally calibrated sometime in December. The remote is very easy to use and understand, the stand (I dont have it mounted on the wall yet) is very sturdy and swivels making it easy to twist the screen from side to side. I have this set in my living room where there are 6 big windows, the reflection is not as bad as I thought it would be but being able to twist the set just an inch or so stops all reflection...its awesome.

The Picture...MAN!! My wife is amazed at how "3-D" the picture looks and thats on Cox cable HD broadcast not to mention blu-ray. I watched the Oregon/USC replay just to get an idea how sports would look...WOW!! (Geaux Tigers btw..LSU!)

All in all I am very pleased with the set, the seemless glass screen is beautiful and makes the set very professional when its turned off...cant say much more..for the price (I got it for 00 on sale at Amazon with free shipping)you cannot do better..trust me and save time researching..you wont be sorry.

I bought it through amazon. Really a very good price compared to SONY and Samsung. The Picture quality is great and HD is full and involving.
Also free voltage (100-240v) and rotating screen. Sounds like a trivial function, but a rotating screen is an important function if you would like to view the screen from various points in your house. And you have a hard time fiding a rotating table for this kind of TV. Overall, a very nice product with a very nice price.

Outside of the three issues discussed below, this set (24") is fine for small viewing areas. Color and HD detail are both excellent.

One issue is the viewing angle, which is very limited, both side-to-side and when the set is elevated, for example, on a wall mount.

Another issue is dark and low-light scenes, such as night time. The Samsung picture becomes too dark making it hard to see what's going on. However, I have seen some improvement by adjusting the brightness and contrast of the picture.

Lastly, the sound is not up to Samsung's usual quality. It seems to project out to the sides and back of the set, rather than the front.

If you are looking for a small HDTV with extraordinary quality, this is not the set for you. For the less demanding viewer, this set is fine, especially considering the price (8) and free shipping from Amazon.

Great picture on this tv. It has a thin bezel (frame around the front of the tv) so you feel like it's bigger than it really is. It has many connections, although it lacks a pc connection, so you can't use this as a computer monitor. This tv has 120hz smooth motion which is supposed to reduce blur when scenes move too fast; that feature looks cool, but it can get tiresome and even make you kind of dizzy, luckily, you can turn it off. The control is simple and it lights up in and orange-red hue. The HD is great and produces crisp colors, especially Blu Ray HD. If you won't be using BluRay or HD, I would get something cheaper just because you won't be taking full advantage of what this tv has to offer. The speakers are not bad, but I'm sure if you buy this you will want to hook it up to a surround sound system. All in all, a great tv.

I asked myself this question before I purchased this machine. However, I concluded that the new reduced price made this a necessary purchase especially since I needed to replace my old VCR. The main reason I wanted this device was to be able to timer record over the air Hdtv signals. This product has worked perfectly at this task. Be aware that you will need a set-top box or HDTV with built in firewire to be able to record in high def. I have a Hitachi 57XWX and this product was identified by the TV when I hooked it up. I have purchased U571 on DVHS and it looks and sounds awesome. The picture is much, much better than DVD which I also love. The VCR is capable of playing back DD5.1 through the firewire or through the optical out on the back of the machine. I am unable to record DD5.1 at this time because no one in my area is televising with a DD data stream. So I am not positive that this feature works. However, I would guess that it would because it is able to play back tapes in DD with the firewire.

Moxi MR-1500T3 HD Digital Video Recorder Review

I am using this and a MOXI mate (1/2 off price). I figure that I will save a bunch of money over the long run as I only have to pay for 1 cable hookup to get a feed of HD DVR to two tv's. After 2 years I will be saving $ and the whole time it's a better experience than Cable HD DVR or TIVO HD (I have had both). It can be a challenge to set up, but if you understand basics about a computers, and have a little patience, you will love it.

Moxi now supports Switched Digital Video thru a seperate tuning adapter provided for free from the cable company (about 30% of my HD chanels require this). This will take care of the problems others were having tuning channels. For analog channels you'll need another external tuner from moxi, and that is free too.

My cable bill now with broadband internet and HD DVR on two tvs is only , and it used to be !

Kind of a no brainer if you like HD TV and want something better for less.

I installed the entire system myself and aiming of the dish is very sensitive but doable, thus some of my picture problems are no doubt due to alignment. Initially, the receiver itself would freeze and I would have to reset it. It would then go through a lengthy setup process but in the end would fix itself every time. But in the last month it has been running perfectly. Sometimes I get picture problems, like the processor isn't decoding fast enough but could be due to alignment or weather. I got the black receiver which doesn't have the ATSC tuner but does have an RF remote. The tuner would be nice so I could record OTA signals, but a computer can be rigged to do that job. American Sattelite said the silver boxes were an old model as did SolidSignal, though Directv said otherwise. Who knows? I never had Tivo but this receiver seems to do fine recording.

i had dish dvr for two years, and it was awesome. it was so easy, fast, and you always got what you wanted to tape. when i got tivo, i was frustrated as i could be. they tape things that you don't want them to tape, and it takes minutes just to rewind an thirty second show, whereas dish literally takes 4-5 seconds. also, in dish it takes you 10 seconds to tape a show from a week from now, whereas tivo takes several minutes to tape a show from just two days from now. buy dish over tivo... best decision of your life
